Hãy nghe câu: I’m dying for a hamburger.=tôi thèm ăn bánh mì mềm nhân thịt bò nghiền và phó mát quá. To be dying for something=thèm lắm, muốn lắm. Thường thì “to die” nghĩa là “chết,” nhưng: to be dying to do something=khao khát làm một chuyện gì lắm. Thí dụ: They made a movie out of the book, and I’m dying to see it.=họ đã đưa lên phim cuốn sách này, và tôi muốn xem phim đó lắm. I’m dying of thirst. Do you have anything to drink?  married men,... married women,... single men,... or single women?

Kathy: Who will live the longest?

Max: That’s right.

Kathy: Hmmm... is it... married men?

Max: No.... it isn’t.

 Single women will have a longer life than any other group.

Kathy: How about single men?

Max: Single men will have the shortest lives.

Kathy: Wow...that’s bad news for single men.

Max: But good news for single women!

 Are you ready for the next question?

Kathy: Yes!

Max: All right...

 Who do you think will have a longer life: Americans with pets or Americans without pets?

Kathy: Which group do I think will live longer?

 Americans with pets, or Americans without pets?

Max: Yes... who will live longer?

Kathy: Well... I’m just guessing, but I think people with pets are happier, so they will have a longer life.

 Is that right?

Max: Yes! Americans with a cat or a dog have a longer life than Americans without pets.

Kathy: You have a dog, don’t you, Max?

Max: Yes. We love our dog, and he makes us happy.

Kathy: Maybe I’ll get a dog, too.

Max: Good idea.

Trong phần Câu chuyện giữa bài Story Interlude, ta nghe chuyện Elizabeth sắp sang San Francisco, California để gặp bạn trai của cô là anh Boris. Anh Boris sắp dự hội nghị ở đấy. Conference=một buổi hội nghị. To attend a conference=dự hội nghị. To book a flight=mua vé máy bay. Did you book your flight already? Chị đã mua vé máy bay rồi ư? Round-trip ticket=vé khứ hồi. One-way ticket=vé đi một chuyến. A non-stop flight=chuyến bay thẳng, không đỗ ở một phi trường trên đường bay.

To be over=xong, chấm dứt. I’m going to take a couple of days off=tôi sẽ nghỉ làm hai ba ngày. Sightseeing=xem danh lam thắng cảnh. To go sightseeing, to do some sightseeing=viếng danh lam thắng cảnh. Travel agent=chuyên viên tổ chức du lịch. Her agent got her a good price on a round-trip ticket=chuyên viên du lịch của cô ta mua hộ cho cô một vé khứ hồi giá phải chăng. Oh, that sounds so much fun!=thế thì vui quá nhỉ! Larry: OK... and we’re off the air.

SFX: Elizabeth entering

Eliz: Hi, everybody.

Max and Kathy: Hi. Hi, Elizabeth.

Eliz: Well, it looks like I’ll be making a trip to California next month.

Kathy: Really? How exciting!

Max: That’s great, Elizabeth. Are you going on vacation?

Eliz: Well, I’m going to take a couple of days off.

 I’m going to meet Boris in San Francisco.

 He’s going out there for a conference next month.

 After the conference is over, I’ll fly out and meet him.

 He wants to do some sightseeing.

  He’s never been to San Francisco. But I have.

Max: San Francisco is a beautiful city.

Kathy: Oh, that sounds like so much fun.

Max: Did you book your flight already?

Eliz: Yes, I went to my travel agent the other day.

 He got me a good price on a round-trip ticket.

Max: Did you get a non-stop flight?

Eliz: Yes, I got the non-stop flight.

 It leaves ve-e-e-ry early in the morning. But it’s convenient.

 Excuse me. It’s time to start my show.

Max: OK. See you later.

Larry: Alri-i-i-ght. Ready for Functioning in Business. Cue Music...
